Acer Iconia W700 Tablet with Windows 8 Arrives
Hot on the heels of the Windows 8-based Aspire S7 series of ultrabooks comes the Acer Iconia W700 tablet PC. The tablet runs Windows 8 on an 11.6-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS touchscreen
and includes a cradle and keyboard so you can use the tablet as a
notebook when you need to type on a full keyboard.
The
Iconia W700 includes a 1.8GHz Intel Core i3-3217U CPU (the W700-6607
model) or 1.7GHz Core i5-3317U CPU (W700-6691). The tablets also have
Intel HD 4000 graphics,
4GB of system memory, and a 64GB or 128GB SSD for storage. The device
offers 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and has front and rear facing
cameras. The 5MP rear camera supports 1080p video capture, while the
front camera offers 720p video chatting.
The cradle is an interesting touch. It supports angles of 20-70 degrees so users can put the screen at a comfortable angle for touching, typing, or watching videos. The cradle also turns to hold the tablet vertically. The keyboard connects to the tablet via Bluetooth, keeping clutter low.
At 2.09 pounds and under an inch thick, the Acer Iconia W700 won’t be the thinnest or lightest tablet on the market, but its size doesn’t sound off-putting. Acer points to a battery life of up to 9 hours. The tablet will be available October 26th (along with Windows 8) starting at $799.99. Higher end models will go for $999.99. Acer also plans to offer a version of the Iconia W700 with Windows 8 Pro for $1,049.99 to corporate customers. The corporate version will have a two-year warranty.
